THE INNOVATIVE MUSIC MEETING
Rajesh Mehta (trumpets) Rohan de Saram (cello) Trichy Sankaran (percussion)
The INNOVATIVE MUSIC MEETING, an improvisation project created by Rajesh Mehta, is based on improvised music, contemporary composed music, and Carnatic (south Indian) music. It demonstrates the creative musical possibiliities of harnessing the collective creative energies that the musicains bring from their respective musical traditions and experiences in order to generate new musical forms and vocabularies, and, ultimately, towards evolving new musical 'languages'. This continuing project aims also to demonstrate that there are deeper strategies for dealing with the innovative aspects of various musical genres, whether 'traditional' or 'contemporary', strategies which take seriously the different strengths and artistic implications of each without resorting to exoticism, elitism or fusion.
